Learn the difference in medical insurance policy excess wording

Expat Medical Insurance policies will generally all have a policy excess (sometimes referred to as a policy deductible) applied in the event of a claim.

The type and wording of a policy excess will have a significant impact on how a claim is treated and the claim reimbursement that is made.

Learn the differences between a 'per annum' and a 'per claim' plan excess.

Per claim excesses

The ‘per claim’ excess is the total amount that policy holders will have to contribute towards the cost of each claim they make.

By ‘claim’, is generally meant to mean a course of medical treatment.

Policy holders won’t have to pay the excess for each bill that forms part of their claim.

Per annum excesses

The ‘per annum’ excess is the total amount that policy holders will have to contribute towards the cost of all claims during the period of cover.
